As of Oct. 01, we North Carolinians began paying the highest income tax in the Southeast and sale tax 8th highest in Nation. The new budget will level a total of $1.1 billion in new taxes which is about $500 per family. Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue signed the bill into law in private without the news reporters or fanfare which sounds like the democrats secret way of doing things. The sales tax increased from 6.75 to 7.75 percent in most of the state. We will be paying 15% more taxes on clothing and other retail store purchases. .35 to .45 cents more per pack of cigarettes. There is a increase in alcohol and school supplies taxes plus corporate income taxes.

This year social security, disable and veterans didn't get a cost of living increase in their checks and many families are having to adjust their budget down to just get by and the North Carolina legislatures seem to be on a big spending spree...sound like Obama to you, yes its does to me also! North Carolina went democrat by only a point in the last presidential election and I have a good feeling that no democrat will win re-election in North Carolina come 2012, if they do then we Carolinians are not smart as I give us credit to be. My suggestion is for everyone to join a tea party and help fight against the White House health care bill which will raise our taxes more when we can't afford the taxes we pay now. This is a tax on the poor and middle income and it all comes about from the crisis that Obama has put us in with all his spending! The democrats always says they will not raise taxes, so please people take a look at this and tell me what you call it if its not raising taxes! This type of tax increases will not create jobs from what I see.

Great hub. I am a North Carolinian. I also happen to be disabled and living on a fixed income. Seems our elected officials have once again given us the roayal shaft, a tea party sounds interesting at this point.
